You’ve dusted your hands and gotten down and dirty into completing your home renovations. You are excited to go back to your home after 4 weeks of moving your entire family to a relatives’ home or staying at a hotel. Before you do so, these are some things that you might want to take into consideration before you move your family back so that it will help you keep things organized, clean and efficient.
Doing a thorough walk through of the house with your contractor and interior designer is one of the most important steps before you move back to your home. You should be detailed about this step and ensure that all corners are properly painted, sealed, and the floor plan and construction quality is up to your standard. Communicate any issues that you spot to the contractor or interior designer immediately so that they can get it fixed before you move in and they hand the house back to you. The repercussion to not doing so could be a large inconvenience to you and your family if there is anything that you might have to rectify after you move in. The saying work first, rest later applies to this very instance.
Moving back into your house is not a small ordeal. It is daunting especially for bigger families and houses that has alot of belongings and things to move. Take this opportunity to throw away the things that you have no more need for, and only take the things that you are happy to bring back into the house.
Here’s some lists everybody needs to start with!
Make sure that you are well organized so that you know exactly what you need to do and you would be able to make your move back back pleasant and efficient.
3. Do a good round of cleaning
Before you move in, you should always do a round of extensive cleaning! There will be a lot of dust from the renovation works left in the nooks and crannies of your house, so make sure that you bring in a good vacuum cleaner to vacuum these hard to reach areas, before you move your furniture in, if not they will become “harder” to reach areas once your furniture and belongings are back in the home. This is good basic housekeeping and hygiene to ensure that the air quality in our house is at its highest and you will not have to worry about allergies on yourself or your family members. If you are lazy or too tired to do it yourself, hire one of the professional cleaning companies available around the island to do it for you. Your back will thank you for doing so!
4. Expect to take 2 to 3 days to move back
Rome was not built overnight, and so your house will not take less than 1 day for you to move and unpack everything. Make sure that you plan to take at least 1 or 2 days off for your move back including the weekends, so that you will have time to comfortably unpack your items and purchase any last minute items and appliances that you may need. If you are working, take a day or two off so that you can be on top to coordinate your family’s move back and to do the necessary paperwork, organization and final touches so you can call it a home sweet home!
Enjoy the process of moving back and stay organized!
